Common questions

Which files do I need?

For the Watchtower: the ASL note-taking worksheet (the PDF) and the ASL Watchtower (the JWPUB file) for the same issue. The checklist in Switchback links to the page on jw.org for each. The English Watchtower PDF is optional; see below.

Switchback refused a file.

Its row says why and names the file to get instead: usually a different issue, the English edition instead of ASL, or a different language. Only the ASL edition is used, and the worksheet’s weeks must match the publication’s. Once the other file changes, it checks again.

What does the English PDF add?

It says which scripture in each paragraph is the one to read, so Switchback can bold those itself. Without it, paragraphs with several scriptures are listed in the report for you to mark. Nothing from the English PDF is stamped on the worksheet.

Some citations say “Not placed”.

Switchback only stamps a citation where it is sure it belongs. The others are listed in the report, and you can place each one by hand before saving.

I dropped both files on the Dock icon and only one arrived.

When Switchback isn’t running, a drop on the Dock icon delivers only the PDF. Drop the JWPUB again; once Switchback is open, the Dock icon and the window take both.

How do I install the Mac download?

Open the downloaded .dmg and drag Switchback to Applications. It is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other app. It needs macOS 26 or later.
